Plastique Fantastique is an architecture studio that samples the performative possibilities of urban environments.
Based in Berlin, Plastique Fantastique was born in 1999 and has been influenced by the unique circumstances that made the city a laboratory for temporary spaces. Plastique Fantastique's synthetic structures affect the surrounding space like a soap bubble does: it is a foreigner which occupies and mutates usual relations and points of view. By mixing the landscape, it gives birth to a new hybrid environment that allows an osmotic passage between private and public space.
The installations crop the subject from its context by beaming it into a new realm of space. Whether people interact with the bubble simply by seeing it, or walking around the exterior, or actually moving through the interior, the structure is a medium to experience the same physical setting in a temporary extraordinary situation. Plastique Fantastique creates light and fluid structures that can lay on the street, skirt a wall, infiltrate under a bridge, squeeze in a yard, float on a lake, invade an apartment and generate an "urban premiere".

Plastique Fantastique is a group of creative subjects that plays with the potentiality of urban context. It aims at revealing a new point of view: The occupied spaces can be analyzed and interpreted - a different form for a limited time. Plastique Fantastique is based in Berlin and reforms project-oriented teams worldwide, depending on the specifical request.

GALLERINATTEN - Moderna Museet Malmö, 26th of September 2009.
"Three months before the grand inauguration in December, Moderna Museet Malmö will arrange its first public event. As a part of Gallerinatten on September 26 we give you an opportunity to mingle in a large-scale plastic bubble outside the museum- in the middle of the ongoing building process. The plastic bubble that will be placed on the street outside of the museum is a spectacular architectural structure and an experience in itself, designed and manufactured by Plastique Fantastique. Friends of Moderna Museet will be in place ready to sign memberships and there will be plenty of information about the new museum. In one part of the plastic bubble, where it has entered the building, the video Speech Bubble by American artist Adam Leech will be shown." (Joa Ljungberg).

THE EMOTION MAKER - Clerkenwell Design Week, London, May 2011.
The fast-forward of our daily life is accelerating: Images, words, sounds – stimuli of all sorts dart upon us, asking for reception and reactions. Interaction is no more an option, but a must – for the ability of participation on social life. Emotions and feelings are operated, triggered and manipulated in its entire range by media. Life is getting more and more similar to a radical aesthetic experience. THE EMOTION MAKER interacts with this reality. Fuzzy and unplaceable in one category, it adapts mechanisms of our accelerated life. As a metaphor, it explores them in order to offer a different form of reflection. Music, architecture and soundscape are united in a public sphere to condense common prejudices concerning space and time. The compressed essence of an unfolded emotion-generating machine becomes tangible in this experience: an unique ten minutes concert for one person. THE EMOTION MAKER is a joint project of plastique fantastique,

FLIPPAT FESTIVAL - Gustav Adolfs Torg, Malmö, November 2008.
The pneumatic structure MEDUSA has been designed to provide the main venue for the five day festival 'flippat', organized by the City of Malmö for young people. The MEDUSA is a mobile sculpture, that engages with the subjects of privacy and publicity, as well as with the mutation, utilization and function of urban space. Throughout the course of 'flippat', the MEDUSA is placed in Gustav Adolfs Torg, downtown Malmö. As a stranger it occupies and disturbs habitual relationships and connections. Generally this kind of installation has the possibility to adapt itself to the different environments and context, even including features of the landscape (i.e. a tree, a column etc.) inside its middle-core the MEDUSA structure is blending with its surroundings.

SPACE INVADERS - Torstrasse 166, Haus der Vorstellung. Berlin, October 2008.
An empty house in Berlin Mitte - Torstrasse 166 - is tackled. Pressure and sound waves inflate the existing air to new volumes. New cores develop themselves around the pneumatic covers – creating extra rooms that are accessible or intangible. These newly yielded rooms become catalysers for emotions, overlapping, shifting, and at last exaggerating the existent tracks and contained structures. 49th IFHP WORLD CONGRESS - Palazzo dei Congressi, Rome, October 2005.
"At the Congresses Palace in Rome during the 49th town-planning and architecture world congress -IFHP- multimedia and interactive installations found their place as an integral part of the building structure to reflect an approach that prefers to read the city through senses. Worldwide architecture and town-planning exponents met in Rome for these four days of meetings and workshops. The new elements offered themselves to the audience senses as they entered the big congress assembly room. Sounds, images, music and pneumatic rooms surrounded the audience. The architecture re-draws the sound, creates listening points, lives the changing urban landscapes." (Alessandra Migani).

DER RETTUNGSRING - Odyspree, treibhaus 08, Berlin, July 2010.
DER RETTUNGSRING is designed as an experimental feature: It is our first attempt to built a floating structure – to bring together the two elements of air and water in a creative form. The Odyspree 2010- a creative storytelling boat trip- is a live performance, initiated by treibhaus 08. On the 'Island of Youth' in the district Berlin Treptow, plastique fantastique dropped their RETTUNGSRING (lifesaver) and placed it around a tree. The huge red and white sculpture semi-floated on the Spree River. It was widely visible as the sign for the 'redeeming shore' where the creative voyagers presented the outcomes of their 'Spree-Odyssee'. Once inside of the structure, the visitor enjoyed the full experience of walking, sitting and relaxing on the water.
